NEW ZEALAND WISDEN AND SLAZENGER CUP - Inter-Association

Badminton Canterbury is extremely disappointed to advise that we have withdrawn our Canterbury 1 team from this season’s Wisden/Slazenger Cup competition.

This has not been an easy decision. Unfortunately, we have not had enough players commit to representative badminton at this level for the 2026 season. A number of factors have contributed to this, including some players stepping away from this level of competition, others being unavailable for the season due to location, and some finding the financial and time commitments challenging this year.

Representative badminton requires a strong level of commitment both on and off court, and without sufficient confirmed availability we are unable to enter a team that would be competitive and sustainable for the full campaign.

We know this will be disappointing for many within our community. We remain committed to rebuilding strength and depth in our representative programme and encouraging players to step into this space in the future.

Information regarding requirements and expectations for Division 3 representative badminton will be released shortly.
