Canterbury Closed Champs – who is the best in Canterbury? This means all players need to be registered members to clubs affiliated to Badminton Canterbury. Anyone playing at the Open, St Paddy’s, Doubles 1/2, SI Masters Division 1 level could enter. There will be either plate games or round robins so all players will get a minimum of 3 games in each code they enter.

Canterbury B Grade Open – this event is open to players registered to a BNZ association. Suitable for those playing Doubles 2, Social Grade, SI Masters division 2/3.

Players can enter one, two or all three events (singles / doubles / mixed) and while it is encouraged to have your own partner, we can accept”partner required” entries where we will do our best to place you with someone.
Minimum age restrictions will apply.
How does the event run?
Play Saturday morning at 9am, finishing by 7pm, and resumes again at 9am on Sunday. Friday night may be used if there are high player numbers. Singles, doubles and mixed through to finals stage will be played throughout the time, with the finals happening on Sunday. An exact schedule of events will be published after entries have closed. Players should ensure they have completed an off-court warm up and ready to go by their start time.
It is expected that all players are available to umpire when called upon to do so.

Our Championship Event!
Highly contested amoungst Canterbury players and attracting players from elsewhere in New Zealand. These are the games to crown our top players in Canterbury. This is a sanctioned Badminton NZ event, and has either plate games or round robins so all players will get a minimum of 2 games in each code they enter.
Part of the exciting NZ Tour series of events, with prizemoney in all main draws and random spot prizes available. In 2023, this event will also incorporate the South Island Championships.
Who can/should enter?
- Anyone wanting to be considered in a senior Canterbury Rep team
- Anyone playing at a Doubles 1 standard or above
- Minimum age will apply
Note there is a B Grade champs held later in the year for those players who are not at this level.
