About Canterbury Masters Championships

Masters badminton is open to all players who turn 35 years old during the year of the event (eg in 2023 they turn 35 on or before 31 December 2023)

A Grade: BNZ Sanctioned Event

Compete amongst the best masters’ players in Canterbury to be crowned a Champion!  This section is for those who play division 1-2 at the South Islands or play Doubles 1-2 interclub in Christchurch.  Medals and prize money in main draw.  In 2023 this will be a Sanctioned Badminton New Zealand event and attract player points to contribute to a players national masters ranking!

B Grade:

For those wanting competitive games without the high performance of A grade!  Suitable for those who play division 2-3 at the South Islands, or Doubles 2 to Red section Social grade interclub. Medals but no title winners!

Super Vets:

This grade is for all players over the age of 60 or turning 60 in 2023. Medals.

All sections will have spot prizes, and a minimum of 3 games each code you enter.

Who can/should enter?

  • Anyone over 35 years old or turning 35 in 2023, Super Vets anyone over 60 or turning 60 in 2023.
  • If you aren’t sure on what section you should do, we can help you decide.
  • Organizers may contact players to regrade them if we think you will get better games in a different section.
  • Players in A & B Grades can enter one, two or all three events (singles / doubles / mixed) and while it is encouraged to have your own partner, we can accept “partner required” entries where we will do our best to place you with someone.

 

How does the event run?

A grade may be scheduled to starts at 7pm on Friday night (this will be depending on player numbers).  Most of the play is for Saturday, starting at 9am finishing by 7pm.  Singles, doubles and mixed will be played throughout the time, B Grade and Super Vets will only be played on Saturday. An exact schedule of events will be published after entries have closed.  Players should ensure they have completed an off-court warm up and ready to go by their start time.

It is expected that all players are available to umpire when called upon to do so.
